4k Drone Gray Whale Calf with Adult swim along Westward Beach
Drone video of a Gray Whale Calf with Adult swim along Westward Beach on their annual migration journey back to Alaska. This pair were about 150 yards offshore at the waveline slowly swimming north at about 11am.
The Gray Whale (Eschrichtius robustus) is a large marine mammal that undertakes one of the longest migrations of any mammal, traveling over 12,000 miles round trip every year.
The Gray Whale's migration is a well-known natural phenomenon and occurs annually from the waters of the Bering and Chukchi Seas, off the coast of Alaska, to the warm waters of Baja California, Mexico, and back. This migration is known as the "Gray Whale Highway" and is considered one of the longest migrations of any mammal.
The journey begins in the fall, usually around October and November, when Gray Whales leave the rich feeding grounds of Alaska and start their journey southward. They swim along the Pacific coast, traveling about 75-100 miles a day, to reach their breeding grounds in the lagoons of Baja California. The whales can be seen along the way, making their way through the open ocean, often accompanied by their young.
In Baja California, the Gray Whales mate and give birth to their calves. The shallow, warm waters of the lagoons provide a safe haven for the newborns to develop their strength and learn to swim. They stay there for several months until they are strong enough to make the journey back to Alaska.
In late winter and early spring, usually around February and March, the Gray Whales start their journey back to their feeding grounds in Alaska. The return journey is more direct, and the whales usually do not stop to feed along the way. They are eager to reach their feeding grounds, where they can feast on the abundant supply of food, including krill and small crustaceans, before the winter arrives.
Overall, the Gray Whale's migration is an incredible feat of endurance and adaptability, and it remains one of the great natural wonders of the world.

The advantage of a drone when whale watching is being able follow them as they cruise along a few feet below the surface. Impossible from a boat, this allows us to remain a safe distance form the whales while getting amazing shots. Phantom4 Standard 4K 30FPS

About 65 miles west of San Diego aboard www.gonewhalewatching.com we found several adult blue whales. This area east of San Clemente Island is up to 5000 feet deep and a favorite spot for blue whales to feed. They will stay underwater for about 12 minutes then take several breaths. It looks like that reservoir has been dry for a lot of years now. Is that reservoir ever gonna get refilled? If not, are there any plans to convert it into a golf course or a park?

    Why was that big ladder not utilized with a major fire to put water on that fire is beyond me? Guys on the roof did an excellent job but if possible more lines should have been stretched onto the roof. Seems to have been a lack of water to fight this one.

      The reservoir is formed by an earthen dam and after the 1971 earthquake it was deemed unstable and the reservoir was drained. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chatsworth_Nature_Preserve#:~:text=In%201972%20the%20reservoir%20was,Chatsworth%20Reservoir%20has%20been%20established.

    in america there seems to be a fundamental problem with turntable ladders. Either they don't have a water connection or nobody serves them and they just stand around... What a shame about the beautiful building!

    Why bring the ladder truck and not use it unless it was just a ladder without water but if it was able to spray water from above then the fire chief should be fired.

  • @franklawski4640
    @franklawski4640 3 роки тому

    I am so glad that they didn't get that TILLER TRUCK dirty, they are very difficult to clean. You have a six man vent crew on the roof and one ground ladder in the alley, I hope that nit-wit chief found a new job in the Fast-Food-Industry the next day. Oh this is California....I guess it would be politically incorrect to actually put the fire out until they make sure they have the correct balance of all races, genders and foreignors on the roof before they take measures to protect egres routes from there.

    The more I watch these videos the more I am convinced that these fires are not stopped they just burn themselves out. There couldn’t have been a better case for that than this. It was a small fire but all the engines were at the back where there was hardly any fire while the front it was raging with no firefighter until later.
